A good pencil case makes for easy portability. And for that purpose, they are good for any number of small items, too. Pencil cases may also contain other stationery such as pens, glue sticks, and staplers. Some even use pencil cases as make-up bags!
Need a new pencil case? How about making one from a plastic soda bottle instead of buying from the bookstore? Aside from spending less money, you get to help mother nature by recycling.
I personally think they’re cuter than the usual pencil cases, especially if you choose a bright zipper to go with them. Plus finding markers is easier with the way they are stored here! What do you think?

Instructions
If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for new ways to be eco-friendly and reduce your carbon footprint. One easy way to do this is to recycle plastic soda bottles and turn them into something useful, like a zippered pencil case! Here’s how you can do it:
1. Wash the soda bottle
Start by rinsing out your soda bottle and removing the label. If the label is difficult to remove, you can soak the bottle in warm water for a few minutes to help loosen the adhesive. Once the label is removed, rinse the bottle again to remove any residue.
2. Cut the soda bottle
Cut the soda bottle to the desired height. Make sure to cut evenly so that the top of the bottle is level. Use a sharp knife or a cutter to make the cut.
I cut my tall one at 4″ and the short is 2 1/4″…Make sure they are as tall as the things you want to put inside…like pencils, pens, or markers! The best way to do it…cut the bottle way higher than desired height and taper down gradually.
3. Prepare the zipper
You’ll need a colored zipper…bright colors give it a pop! Measure the zipper to fit around the circumference of the bottle. Cut off the “stopper” end of the zipper to length.

Use hot glue and secure some felt on the end of the zipper.
This will keep the zipper from coming off the rails completely.
