All kids definitely enjoy playing with the slides at the playground. But how about this rainy season? They won’t be allowed to play outside. How about bringing the fun inside the house? How can you do that? Why not convert your stairs into a slide? Sounds good!? Yes, you can! Introducing the genius invention of a mom – Trisha from Minnesota, Cleveland. A mom who invented an indoor slide for her kids – the SlideRider! We’re guessing she has one too many rainy days trying to find fun activities for the kids!

SlideRider: Stairs Into a Slide

What is a SlideRider?

This Stair slide was invented by a mom (Trisha) from Cleveland. This concept was first introduced to Quirky. Stair slide is made of anti-slip rubber with soft foam and cushioned landing. The material is hard polyethylene foam in the vinyl covering that provides solid structural support. The base is built with handles. To secure your kids’ safety, these are built with bumpers on both sides. The width of this stair slide is just enough for a kid to slide, still leaving a space beside, to allow them to climb up the stairs.

What Makes This DIY Stair Slide So Cool?

This portable slide can be used on a multitude of different-length stairs and included safety features to ensure that your child will be safe while using it.

The stair slide unfolds “accordion” style from the stored position, and once fully extended, the safety bumpers fold out and Velcro securely into place.

The top of the slide acts as an anchoring base that is weighed to help keep the slide in place during use, and the underside of the slide has an anti-slip rubber grip that extends along the entire bottom.

The slide itself is made out of hard polyethylene foam inside a vinyl covering which provides solid structural support while still allowing it to be lightweight and slippery enough for sliding.

The landing pad of the slide is made of softer foam to provide a safe and cushioned landing for the user. When not in use, the stair slide conveniently folds up back on the top of the base and is held in place by a storage strap that wraps around it and attaches to the other side of the base.

The base of the SlideRider also has built-in handles to make transportation easier.

Safety Tips for Using a Stair Slide

Stair slides like the SlideRider bring endless fun indoors, especially during rainy days or when outdoor play isn’t possible. While they are designed for excitement and convenience, safety is paramount. Here are essential tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience with your stair slide.

Supervision is Important

The importance of adult supervision can’t be overstated when children use a stair slide. Even if a stair slide like the SlideRider is equipped with safety features, the presence of an adult is essential.

It’s vital that an adult is always present to watch over the kids during playtime. This helps in promptly addressing any unsafe behaviors or situations that may arise.

Additionally, an adult can ensure that children follow the rules of safe play, such as no pushing or roughhousing on the stairs. By keeping a watchful eye, adults can intervene when necessary and maintain a safe play environment.

Proper Slide Usage

Educating children on correctly using the stair slide is crucial for their safety. It’s important to instruct them to always sit facing forward when sliding down. Sliding down headfirst or on their stomachs can be dangerous and increases the risk of injury.

Children should also be taught to wait patiently for their turn to slide. This prevents overcrowding or collisions on the slide. Another important rule is to prevent children from climbing up the slide, which could lead to falls or collisions with other children sliding down. Children can enjoy the stair slide safely and responsibly by teaching and reinforcing these rules.

Clear the Landing Area

Maintaining a clear landing area is crucial for the safety of stair slide users. Before allowing children to use the slide, inspect the bottom area thoroughly. Remove any toys, furniture, or objects that could pose a hazard. This includes small toys that could be tripping hazards or larger items that could cause injury upon impact.

A clear landing zone prevents injuries and ensures a smooth and uninterrupted slide experience. It’s also a good practice to place a soft mat or cushioning at the landing area for added safety, especially on hard floors. This simple step greatly reduces the risk of bruises or other injuries.

Regular Slide Checks

Conducting regular slide checks is a fundamental step in ensuring the safety of a stair slide. Before using SlideRider, it’s important to thoroughly inspect the slide for any signs of damage or wear.

Look for cracks, tears, or any other indications of deterioration that could compromise the slide’s safety. Checking for loose parts is also crucial. Ensure all components, especially safety features like bumpers and rails, are securely attached and functioning properly. These elements are vital for the safe operation of the stair slide.

In addition to pre-use checks, regular maintenance of the SlideRider should be a routine practice. This involves cleaning the slide regularly to remove dirt and debris that could affect its performance or safety. Also, ensure that the stair slide’s surface is free of any materials that could reduce its slipperiness, as this is essential for a safe sliding experience.

Appropriate Age and Size

Adhering to the manufacturer’s age and size recommendations is a key aspect of stair slide safety. The SlideRider, like most stair slides, is designed with specific age and size limits in mind. These guidelines are based on the slide’s structural design and safety features, tailored to support and protect children within a certain weight and height range.

Using the slide outside of these recommended limits can pose serious safety risks. It’s important for parents and guardians to check these recommendations before purchasing and using them. Following these guidelines ensures that the slide is used as intended, optimizing safety and functionality. By respecting these limits, you contribute to a safer play environment for all children.

Following these safety tips can provide a fun and secure environment for children to enjoy their stair slide. Remember, safety enhances the joy of play!

DIY Customization Ideas for SlideRider

The SlideRider is a fantastic addition to any home, offering endless fun and excitement. To make your stair slide experience even more unique, consider customizing your SlideRider. You can personalize the slide with a few creative touches to reflect your children’s interests and enhance their playtime. Here are some DIY customization ideas for your SlideRider.

Theme Decorations

Transforming your SlideRider into a themed adventure can take the stair slide experience to a new level. Start by choosing a theme that resonates with your kids’ interests. Whether it’s a space odyssey, a jungle safari, an underwater voyage, or the world of their favorite cartoon character, the theme can truly excite and engage your child.

Use safe, non-toxic paints to bring the theme to life on the sides of the SlideRider. You can paint stars and planets for a space theme, lush greenery and animals for a jungle look, or colorful fish and seaweed for an underwater theme. Stickers can also be a great way to add thematic elements without the permanence of paint.

To further enhance the theme, consider adding flags or banners at the top or bottom of the SlideRider. These could be homemade or purchased, featuring elements of the chosen theme. This enhances the stair slide’s visual appeal and plays a key role in sparking your child’s imagination and creativity.

Light It Up

Adding LED lights to the SlideRider can create a magical and colorful sliding experience, especially during evening playtimes. Carefully attach LED lights along the sides or base of the SlideRider, choosing colors that complement the slide or match a specific theme.

These lights add to the aesthetic appeal and an enchanting atmosphere to the play area. It’s important to ensure the lights are securely attached to avoid any safety hazards. Opt for battery-operated LEDs to eliminate the need for electrical cords, which can be a tripping hazard.

This lighting can transform the stair slide into an exciting attraction in your home, captivating children and encouraging imaginative play even after the sun goes down. The added benefit of visibility during evening hours also contributes to the safety of the SlideRider.

SlideRider Accessories

Enhancing your SlideRider with custom accessories can significantly boost the fun and interactive aspect of the stair slide. One idea is to create start and finish signs, which can be crafted from materials like cardboard, fabric, or wood. You can paint these signs or decorate them with markers, adding an official touch to the slide.

Another exciting addition is a scoreboard for slide races. This can be a simple chalkboard or a whiteboard where kids can keep track of their sliding times or scores, adding a competitive edge to their play.

You can also make fun banners using fabric or paper. These banners can be themed to match the SlideRider’s decoration or to celebrate special occasions like birthdays or holidays.

Hang them near the SlideRider to create a festive atmosphere. The beauty of these accessories is that they can be easily swapped out or updated to reflect different themes or events, keeping the stair slide experience fresh and exciting.

Personalized Touch

Encouraging your kids to add a personal touch to the SlideRider can greatly enhance their connection and enjoyment of the slide. One way to do this is by allowing them to handprint their names at the start of the slide. They can stamp their handprints and write their names using washable paints, making the SlideRider uniquely theirs.

Another option is for them to draw or stick their favorite characters or designs along the slide. Depending on their interests, this could include anything from superheroes to animals or abstract patterns.

These personalization activities make the stair slide more visually appealing to the children and give them a sense of ownership and pride in their play area. It’s an excellent opportunity for children to express their creativity and personalize their space.

Additionally, these personal touches can be updated as the children grow and their interests evolve, ensuring that the SlideRider remains a beloved and integral part of their playtime for years to come.

Incorporating these DIY customization ideas allows you to transform your SlideRider into a more engaging and personalized play area. These simple, creative enhancements will surely enhance the joy and excitement of the SlideRider experience. Remember, the key is to have fun and let your creativity shine!
